Enrollment Process

Washington Karate Association membership policies and fee schedule will be explained in the office at any time. We also have an ongoing ‘open observation’ policy for family (or visiting friends) for all classes conducted. To this end, the trial lesson has no deviation from normal class routine and each class will represent an original approach to our world-renowned pedagogy. This systematic development includes:

  • Close attention to exercises that precede the class proper. These warm up moves include aerobic and anaerobic work coupled with stretches, breathing techniques, and the ability to learn/follow/lead with confidence.
  • Class protocols are indigenous to classic karate discipline required of the art. Character development, an ability to follow and sort instructions, is vital as to reconcile martial arts to civilized principles. This includes:
  1. A formal opening and closing ceremony that serves to remind students of the respectful relationship to each other. The instructor is similarly reminded of a responsibility and respect for students.
  2. The floor is cleaned by students at each class, representative of one’s respect for our living/work space.
  3. A polite atmosphere prevails
  4. A strong work ethic is cultivated and maintained
For those with special challenges, temporary injuries, or other information that might impact training, we ask that you apprise the Sensei of these concerns as to responsibly map strategies. At the trial lesson, please let the sensei share their experience with you and vice versa. In the case of minors, this discussion is best discussed without the child present. We will arrange for this opportunity ahead of the trial lesson, at your request.

Prepare to enjoy this lesson and the journey that follows!
